Most new motorcycles use LED turn signals stock, when replacing the OEM turn signals with aftermarket ones load resistors are required to solve the hyperflash that happens when you remove/replace your turn signals.   In addition, modern motorcycles use the ECU/Gauge cluster to supply power to the turn signals, so there is no longer a blinker relay.

Most load resistor kits offered (6-8 ohms) are meant to replace tungsten bulbs!

This means that if you use the standard load resistors that you find on amazon or ebay you would be putting a large amount of stress on the ECU/Gauge cluster as the load resistor attempts to pull up to 24 watts through the gauge cluster!  This is obviously hard on the delicate circuitry inside your gauge cluster!

Our load resistors are spec'd to simulate OEM LED turn signals.  There are several advantages for using properly spec'd resistors:

  1. Lower current draw/less wasted power.

  2. Easier on your gauge cluster/ECU.

  3. Physically smaller.

  4. Far lighter.

Our plug and play turn signal load resistors use genuine NT-40 connectors.  One version has an extra +12V wire that is switched by the ignition (pilot light wire), we decided to offer this variant for people who want to add other lights or accessories (USB charger, etc) to the bike.  This pilot light wire gives a convenient access point for +12V.  It is protected by the "Signal System Fuse" on the bike.

Please note!  These load resistors have been spec'd and tested on 2017 YZF-R6s and 2015+ YZF-R1s.  They will most likely work with other modern motorcycles that use OEM LED turn signals, but we have not tested them on other bikes yet!  As people buy them and report in, we will add a list of verified bikes to this page.

Here is a flow chart to decide if you need/don’t need load resistors:
